Florida Emergency Preparedness Association, Inc.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Florida Emergency Preparedness Association, Inc. (FEPA) is the premier statewide organization dedicated to enhancing emergency management planning and preparedness activities at the local and state level. The primary mission of FEPA is to provide an information and support network between county emergency management directors and their partners at the municipal, county, state and federal government level.

Objectives of the association include: (1) ensuring coordination and information dissemination to those responsible for emergency preparedness in volunteer and private industry organizations on a host of critical issues; (2) promoting a strong organizational structure whereby county and municipal governments, commercial, industrial and volunteer organizations, and private citizens can work together to enhance mitigation, response and recovery capabilities from all types of natural and technological disasters; (3) assisting municipal and county governments, business and industries, and private citizens in the establishment and maintenance of an effective emergency management program; (4) providing legislative and regulatory review of proposed legislation and administrative rules that impact emergency preparedness in order to ensure consistency with the interests, goals and policies of the association; and (5) establishing an information exchange and educational program to advance the professional level and readiness capability of the emergency management community within the state.

MEMBERSHIP/ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS/FEES

Membership is comprised of local government emergency management agencies; emergency response agencies; representatives of industrial, commercial, educational, military, private non-profit and volunteer organizations; and professionals in all career fields who perform emergency management functions.

There are two membership categories:

Regular membership is accorded to an individual in good standing who meets eligibility criteria; regular members are subject to dues of $75 per year.

Institutional membership shall be extended to any agency that has responsibilities/duties relating to emergency management.

OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION

A certification program for professional and associate emergency managers is administered by the association to enhance the level of professionalism in the field.

FEPA's annual conference is normally convened in the first quarter of the calendar year; speaker presentations, panel discussion and workshops focus on timely emergency management issues and topics; in conjunction with the annual conference, association business is conducted; also, outstanding agency and individual contributions to the field of emergency management are recognized through an awards program.
