Description: The Florida Emergency Preparedness Association Mentoring Program is a multi-faceted program to aid in the growth of new professionals in the field of emergency management.
Background: FEPA has a wealth of information and experience within the membership. Historically, occasional informal alliances have been made between these experienced professionals and those new to the field. The sharing of those experiences can greatly enhance the capabilities of local governments, agencies, and businesses. Experienced professionals in the diverse emergency management field are in an ideal position to provide assistance to those just entering the field, changing careers or new to Florida.
The FEPA mentoring program formalizes this process by pairing a volunteer mentor with an individual seeking guidance or integration into emergency management. The mentor can provide a support system, and make introductions to others in the field, as well as provide a perspective on successes and obstacles.
Objectives:
- To provide an experienced emergency manager to act as a mentor for persons new in the field of emergency management or new to Florida who desire this type of interaction.
- To ensure that issues are addressed from a similar program to provide a realistic and relevant base of information.
Purpose:
- To complement academic training or pervious experience.
- To enhance the integration of the mentee into the Florida Emergency Preparedness community through greater involvement in the profession.
- To enhance communications with emergency management professionals throughout Florida.
- To provide fresh perspectives to those who serve as mentors.
Implementation:
- If you are new to emergency management in Florida, please email FEPA at
sglass@fepa.org and we will get you
connected with a mentor.
