At the 1998 Annual FEPA Conference, the membership adopted the recommendations of the organization's Certification Commission, accepting the draft FEPA Certification Criteria as presented. The first FPEM and FAEM designations were presented at the 1999 annual conference in Daytona Beach. In 2002, the Certification Commission developed the first certification for volunteers in the State of Florida (Certified Emergency Management Volunteer – FEMV).

The FEPA Certification Program continues to grow and now includes a Health Care Component as well as three tiers of Emergency Management Instructor Certifications.
All certifications are valid for five (5) years. Each individual's Certification term begins and ends with the FEPA Annual Meeting Awards Ceremony.

To ensure there is time for review and approval of your application, please submit it early! Applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received.
